elmerfishing.com is a site that tries to address all the areas that we fly fishermen usually comes in contact with. Therefore you will not only find articles about fly fishing here, but also exciting and useful things around living in the outdoors, fly tying, cooking, photos, insects and other things related to fly fishing and wildlife. All in an attempt to inspire and hopefully grow and evolve both yours and ours fly fishing even further.

Elmer är en a fly fishing club with a few members that always trying to learn and develop our fly fishing and wildlife knowledge.

First fishing trip in 2012

It was January 6 in 2012, a warm winter day and the snow was missing. I took the car to my favourite spot in Vättlefjäll just outside Gothenburg in Sweden to try the first fly-fishing this year. Hopefully there would be no ice on the lake.

After a while in the car and some hiking, I arrived at my favorite place and started to get all the gear in order. But it was very cold! The temperature was around 5 minus degrees Celsius and my fingers got cold very quickly when trying to get the fishing rod in order and to tie the fly on the line. But I finally managed and started fishing hoping to catch something.

But just after a few minutes, my fingers started to hurt really badly. The water was freezing on my fingers and when the ice was all over my hands – it was very hard to continue fly-fishing. After about 30 minutes, I gave up and got up from the water and had some warm coffee. It was very nice to be outdoors again, even though it was a bit early in the season…

After a coffee break, I tried to do some more fly-fishing, but it was too cold. At lunch time I started hiking back to my car.

To sum up, It was WAY too early. It is hard to do fly fishing when it’s minus degrees Celsius outside…

So I went back home dreaming about the summer and those incredible midnight-sun-nights in the northern Sweden fly-fishing for big trout’s...

Flyfishing in Tiveden

We are back from a day trip to Tiveden. Myself, Anders Löfgren, Ulf Hagström and Anders Maijgren tried out the streaming section of Tidan for flyfishing Rainbow Trout. The weather was rainy, but it didn’t stop us from having a good time and catch some trout.

The fishing was good with a total of 7 Rainbow Trout’s. Anders Löfgren had most success with 4 catches. Images from the trip could be found in the Elmer Photo Gallery.

Solo trip to Rostu/Sandåslandet

I’m back now from a solo trip to Rostu/Sandåslandet in Nordkalotten, Sweden.

As usual, Kallax Flyg did arrange the fly out and pick up and it worked smoothly as usual. Thanks a lot Nina, Tony, Lasse and the others at Kallax Flyg.
The trip started a Friday evening with the worst possible start. I was exhausted due to not having eating enough earlier during the day and now I was out alone in the outdoors trying to get my tent and everything up. There was a LOT of mosquitoes, like it usually is, but it always takes a couple of days before I get used to ‘em so this evening was a pain – hungry, tired and a lot of mosquitoes. After a while, my Hilleberg tent was finally in place just beside a good lake with Arctic Trout. I have been here before so I know the fishing is good here. The lake was still and the fish was picking insects from the surface all over the lake. It was a beautiful sight!
